Vaccinations for Cats, Dogs, Rabbits and Ferrets

Cat Vaccinations

We can start protecting  kittens from killer diseases with  vaccinations from 8 weeks of age and adults at any age.

The main or so called “Core” Vaccinations for our Feline friends would be:

  • Feline Infections Enteritis
  • Feline Leukaemia Virus
  • Feline Calicivirus 
  • Feline Herpes Virus

Feline Calicivirus and Feline Herpes Virus being part of what is known as “Cat Flu”. 

Other Vaccinations would be thought of as non-core might include:

  • Rabies – required for foreign travel.
  • Chlamydia – affects fertility so used by breeders.
  • Bordetella – an upper respiratory disease, cats that are shown or go to catteries may have this.

Dog Vaccinations

We can start protecting our puppies from killer diseases with vaccinations from 6 weeks of age, and adults at any age.

The main or “Core” Vaccinations for our Canine Companions would be:

  • Canine Parvovirus
  • Canine Distemper Virus
  • Canine Adenovirus (infections hepatitis)
  • Leptospirosis

Other Vaccinations that would be thought of as non-core would be:

  • Bordetella – an upper respiratory disease, dogs that go to shows or into kennels may need this.
  • Parainfluenza – an upper respiratory disease, dogs that go to shows or into kennels may need this.
  • Rabies -required for travel abroad.

Bordetella and Parainfluenza are part of what is known as Kennel Cough Syndrome.

Rabbit Vaccinations

We can start protecting our kittens, from killer diseases with vaccinations from 5 weeks of age, and adults at any age.

The main or “Core” Vaccinations for our Rabbit fur babies would be:

  • Myxomatosis
  • Rabbit Haemorrhagic disease (RHD – Type 1)
  • Rabbit Haemorrhagic disease (RHD – Type 2)

Ferret Vaccinations

We can protect our ferrets against distemper from 12 weeks of age. (using dog distemper vaccination off license)

What is ferret distemper?
Distemper is an uncommon but serious disease in ferrets which generally starts with coughing, sneezing and discharges from the eyes and nose and is invariably fatal.
