Dental health assessments: The best dental care for Stellar pets

We’re excited to launch our new dental health assessment and care program with our lovely nursing team, a fantastic way for you to get peace of mind that your pet’s mouth and teeth are in tip top shape, and to point you in the right direction if any further care is necessary.

Dental care is crucial to the overall wellbeing of your pet. Not only can problems with teeth and gums cause severe pain that they’re experts at masking, but any infections and bacteria enter the bloodstream through the gums and end up impacting major organs.

The best way to prevent this scenario is through preventative care – keeping your pet’s mouth healthy and nipping problems in the bud as early as possible.

What is the dental health assessment and care program?

In our dental health assessment, one of our nurses will inspect your pet to make sure their teeth are clean and strong, their gums are healthy and that there are no problems to flag. We will then create an individual care program for your pet, which may include tooth brushing, special diets, dental mouthwash that is added to the water bowl and oral gels.

If we recommend an appointment with one of our vets for a scale and polish, further tests including dental x-ray, or extractions, we can get that booked in.

Dental work can get complicated. We need to anaesthetise pets to work on their mouths, which does bring a risk factor. However, our vets are very experienced and do everything they can to make procedures as safe as possible. We see great results when offering dental care and clients are often amazed at how much happier and more energetic their pets can be after painful teeth are treated or removed!

We want to be as transparent as we can be about the care we deliver to clients and our dental health checks ensure that only the pets who need it will be recommended for further care.

And the good news is that our Best Buddy Unlimited™ members will have free access to our dental health assessments – as well as 20% off any further work that’s required. Just another way that we’re doing everything we can to extend our patient’s lives by taking a lead role in preventative healthcare.

Why is dental health important?

Most pets will hide sore and infected teeth and gums particularly well, even when the pain becomes severe.

This can lead to them becoming down and their appetite and behaviour being affected.

If left unchecked, bacteria in the mouth can enter the bloodstream through the gums, from where it impacts major organs, causes long-term health concerns and can reduce life expectancy.

A sure sign that your pet needs a dental health check is bad breath. You may think that stink is part and parcel of owning a pet, but healthy mouths shouldn’t smell!

This is all why we’re introducing our dental health assessments – and making them free for our Best Buddy Unlimited™ members, as well as giving them 20% off any further dental work required.

We’re passionate about preventative healthcare and believe this is another crucial step towards giving your pets a Stellar service.

Meet Kerry, one of our happy patients

Kerry is an 11-year-old chocolate Lab who was recommended treatment after one of our dental care assessments.

She needed four extractions, with a thorough scale and polish on the teeth that remained – but afterwards her mouth was in much better shape and her owner, Vanessa, noticed a massive difference in her behaviour.

“I just to say thank you to the Stellar team,” Vanessa said.

“Kerry is like a new dog today. Her breathing is so much better and her breath smells a lot better.

“She loved her walk down the beach today with her little sister Rosie. Thank you.”
